The quality of the new maps is incredible and with a map creator it is easy to create your own personal favorites. Furthermore, the points are a lot more important here than in most other racing games; it's much more of a battle even during practice, so you can aim for less top-ten finishes in qualification (in case you want to get some practice-free points without running the risk of being sent away from the race). Because these points are so important, you'll find yourself constantly in need of new cars. You can't buy new cars from the dealership like in many racing games, but you can build them using materials found throughout the map and pit stops. I've never seen a GSX-R 750 that didn't look cooler sitting in the garage.
The game does under perform when it comes to the new hardware, but it looks absolutely stunning. There's a huge amount of detail on the environments and tracks, and dynamic reflections and lighting are also a huge part of this game. Unlike other rally games, WRC doesn't feel like you're playing in a desert. The environments seem nice and varied, but the dirt and mud look much more realistic than in other rally games.
There's a nice variety of customization options, offering a vast array of color schemes for the cars. There are also lots of features under the hood. You can adjust all of the vehicle's settings on the fly, such as engine torque, suspension compression, brakes, gear ratios, and even the transmission mode (there's a manual and automatic setting). If you need to, you can also tune your car's engine and suspension parameters. It's a good representation of what some real-life Subaru Levorg owners did to transform their car, and it's nice to see they put the same amount of resources into WRC as they do in real life.
It's also a huge improvement on PlayStation 2's DiRT games. DiRT 2 was decent but not particularly polished, and while GRID was a bit of a letdown after GRID 2, GRID 3 added many new features and improvements, which makes WRC 3 incredibly exciting (and I'm excited to see what DiRT 4 will manage to bring to the table). d2c66b5586
