A Real Estate Agent License is a State assigned credential. In some states, an agency is a “Certified" or "Licensed" Real Estate Agent. In other states, an agency is a “Provisional" license, but needs to “Complete" the REEP agent training course in order to “Become" a full Real Estate Agent License. In New York State, an agent is a “Certified" or “Licensed" Real Estate Agent by purchasing the course.
The purpose of the Real Estate Agent License course, is to teach new Realtors the basics of real estate law and ethics, and include courses to teach how to use Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point allowing the agent to prepare documents for a real estate transaction.
After successful completion of the real estate certificate course, you will be given an official New York State Real Estate Broker License. The new license will be valid for 2 years from the date of purchase of the course.
To be eligible for a New York State Real Estate Broker License, a person or company must be incorporated or petition to have a corporation formed under the Real Estate License Law of New York (1-327 Laws of the State of New York, and held responsible by the rules and regulations of the New York State Real Estate Commission.
